Welcome to the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours Website

The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours is one of the oldest societies of professional watercolour painters. The aims of the society are: to promote painting in watercolours; to encourage the use and development of water based mediums and to present the work of its best exponents in its annual exhibitions. The RI is based in London but its members come from all over the UK and beyond.

RI Competition

Our second website competition has ended. The winning entry was picked by Mike Bernard RI, whose new book - "Collage, Colour and Texture in Painting" - was the prize, and the winner is N Yeoman of North Yorkshire. The correct answer to the question, "What is a collage?" was: "It is an artistic composition of materials and objects pasted over a surface". Thank you to everyone who entered. Congratulations to the winner and commiserations to everyone else - better luck next time.

RI Review

The second issue of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours newsletter, the RI Review, has been published. It is packed with Member's news, the President's review of the 198th Annual Exhibition, book reviews and articles on various subjects. Soon it will be available to download from this site. In the meantime Issue no: 1 can be acquired as a pdf file from the downloads page.
